Forget iPhone, Pixel: Samsung’s Galaxy S24 will get 7 years of Android/One UI and software updates
Following Google Pixel 8’s lead, Samsung today launched the Galaxy S24 series, which supports 7 years of Android/One UI and software updates. This comes as an exciting announcement, which Samsung Mobile President TM Roh made at the beginning of Unpacked.
As Samsung ships the Galaxy S24 series with Android 14 pre-installed, the devices will get major upgrades up to Android 21. At the same time, the company has guaranteed regular software updates with security improvements until January 2031.

Samsung is already giving up to four years of OS upgrades to Galaxy devices across various segments. Not only flagships, the company’s newly released Galaxy A phones also support four generations of OS upgrades. However, the S24 comes out as a major upgrade for the company’s software offering.
Apple has been offering up to 7 years of software updates support to its iPhone models. Last October, Google raised its software support for the Pixel 8 and later models for 7 years. Samsung, with its Galaxy S24 series, marked its entry for longer software promise.
It would be interesting to see if Samsung expands the support for its older flagships such as S23 and S22 series!
