Samsung Electro-Mechanics today announced that it has developed a multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) for vehicles with 16 volt (V) class high voltage configuration.

Smooth power supply is essential to transmit signals quickly and accurately, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics simultaneously implemented high voltage and high capacity to support stable operation. MLCC is a component that controls the constant flow of current in electronic product circuits.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics explained that it has miniaturized dielectric ceramic powder, a key raw material, to the nanoscale level and achieved high capacity. The empty space within the dielectric is minimized and operation is possible even at high voltages.

There are two types: one that supports 100 nanofarad (nF) capacity in the 0603 size (width 0.6 mm, height 0.3 mm) and the 1608 size (width 1.6 mm, height 0.8 mm) with 4.7 microfarad (uF) capacity.

It’s applied to the gateway module, a core device for autonomous driving. The automotive gateway is a core system that integrates & manages ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) functions within a car & transmits data safely.

“We will increase our technological competitiveness by developing and manufacturing core MLCC raw materials ourselves, and expand our product lineup by internalizing facilities and strengthening production capabilities.” – Samsung Electro-Mechanics VP.
