One UI 6.1 update won’t bring iPhone-like AOD feature to older Samsung phones
Samsung Galaxy S24 series comes with the iPhone-like AOD feature, check here in action. The company confirmed One UI 6.1 is coming to older Galaxy devices in the first half of 2024, while there’s bad news that the iPhone-like AOD feature won’t be included.
Available in One UI 6.1, the new interface allows you to have your home screen wallpaper on the lock screen when the Always-On Display feature is turned on. It seems like this feature is bounded by hardware as older phones are unlikely to get it with the One UI 6.1 update.

Insiders who spoke to SamMobile (via GSMArena) revealed that the new AOD lock screen wallpaper feature will remain exclusive to the S24 series for now. The new flagships feature upgraded display panels, which are more power-efficient compared to older screens.
The usage of the Always On Display feature harms the phone’s battery performance. When enabled, it continuously consumers the power to showcase dimmed light graphical elements on the screen. This leads to a bit of additional battery consumption, resulting in a lesser battery cycle life.
The South Korean tech giant stated the panels on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are more power-efficient so the damage done to battery life is acceptable.
