Google’s Wear OS has received significant changes in recent years, with new features, performance enhancements, and design changes. Back in 2023, the latest Wear OS 4 based on Android 13 was released with new capabilities. Now, Google is moving forward for the next major update for smartwatches, Wear OS 5.

According to a report via 9to5Google, Wear OS 5 will be based on Android 14. Samsung and  Google are collaborating to develop Wear OS. However, the Korean tech giant is reportedly working on a new Galaxy Watch 7 chip that will support Android 14 and the smartwatch will likely be the first device to run Wear OS 5.

While the details of Wear OS 5 are still unknown, we can expect some improvements in UI, battery life, and compatibility. Wear OS 5 will also follow the footsteps of Wear OS 4, which integrated Fitbit and Google Assistant features.

Additionally, Wear OS 5 will mark the first time that Google’s smartwatch platform will receive an annual update cycle, matching the pace of Android updates for smartphones and TVs.

Wear OS 5 is expected to arrive later this year, along with the Pixel Watch 3, which may come in two sizes. With Wear OS 5, Google plans to make its smartwatch platform more competitive and appealing to users and developers alike.
