Galaxy S24 sparks internal criticism, Lee admits iPhone dominance: Innovation crisis at Samsung?

A new report reveals that Samsung chairman Lee Jae-yong had a high-level meeting with Samsung heads and over three dozen CEOs. During the meeting, chairman Lee was unhappy due to the lack of innovation in the recently launched Galaxy S24 series.

It’s worth noting that the South Korean tech giant is being criticized due to the lack of innovation in products and gradual/incremental upgrades. At the same time, Chinese phone makers are introducing spec-heavy products at the same or lower prices than Galaxy.
In the recent past, Samsung hired a Mercedes designer to lead Galaxy’s design department. It has been reported that the Galaxy S25 series will have radical design changes over the previously launched Galaxy devices including the S24, S23, and S22 series.
Lee shows voices of Samsung consumers to CEOs
At the meeting, chairman Lee played a pre-prepared video so CEOs could watch it together. The video contains the thoughts and voices of Samsung’s customers and users and what they want from Samsung. The video reportedly included a comparison between competitors and Samsung.
Chairman Lee is said to have emphasized that the company must think from the customer’s perspective. At the same time, he ordered the presidents to optimize and provide services needed by users, such as generative AI, and lead technological trends.
While the S24 series already went official, it would be interesting to see whether Samsung manages to apply the voices of Galaxy users with the next-gen of products. Before the S25 lineup, the company will also release new foldable phones, sometime in July this year.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 pricing have been tipped for the Europe region. The phones will launch next month, while price-related information has already started to pop up online.
According to SmartPrix, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be priced at €2200 for 256GB, €2330 for 512GB, and €2580 for 1TB. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 could cost €1330 for 256GB and €1450 for 512GB variants.

For the S24 Ultra, Samsung collaborated with Corning to develop an exclusive Gorilla Armor glass. It significantly reduces reflection and features extra durability. The lower the outside reflection, the better the display will screen colors and hues to the user.

Samsung will hold the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10. The Galaxy Watch Ultra will launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Watch 7 series, Galaxy Ring and Buds 3 series. These products are rumored to hit market shelves in the third week of the next month.

According to the info, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 may come with a price tag of $358.55 CAD in Canada. It translates to about $299 in the United States, similar to the Galaxy Watch 6 price. The listing also confirmed that the wearable will launch on July 10.
Interestingly, the upcoming Galaxy smartwatch may feature 128GB internal storage. Apart from the new 3nm Exynos chipset, the wearable may be equipped with Enhanced BioActiveSensor2. Integration of Galaxy AI will make health monitoring even more accurate.
