Samsung has recently rolled out a new update for its Always On Display (AOD) app with version 8.7.96.12. The update is supposed to fix some bugs and improve the user experience but it has caused issues on some Galaxy devices.

As per the changelog, the update fixes some issues related to widgets on the lock screen, carrier and notification icons in the status bar, and date on the lock screen. However, some users of the Galaxy S23 series have reported that the update also introduces a new bug, which makes their phones unusable.

According to information via @theonecid, after installing the update, users get stuck in a weird AOD loop, where they cannot unlock their phones or access any functions. The screen keeps switching between the AOD and the lock screen, without responding to any input. It is not clear how widespread this issue is, or what causes it.

Samsung has not yet acknowledged or addressed the issue, nor has it provided any official solution. Users who have not yet updated their AOD app are advised to wait until Samsung releases a patch or a new version.

Users who have already updated Samsung Always On Display 8.7.96.12 version and are facing the issue are advised to contact Samsung’s customer support or visit a service center.
