After seeing the Pyeongtaek campus, Sam met with SK Hynix President Kwak No-jeong. SK Hynix produces high-bandwidth memory (HBM), an essential AI component and memory semiconductor. Sam’s Korea visit reportedly aimed at securing HBM, which is considered the core of AI semiconductors.

SK Hynix is currently the number one supplier of HBM to NVIDIA, which supplies 90% of the world’s AI semiconductors. Samsung Electronics appears to be following closely behind, with the combined HBM market shares of SK Hynix (50%) and Samsung (40%) exceeding 90%.
