Samsung Galaxy S24 beats iPhone 15 Pro with 492Hz PWM refresh rate

Samsung’s Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra equip new OLED screens. The company showcased these panels can reach up to 2600 nits peak brightness outdoors. Samsung Galaxy S24 also beats Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro with a higher PWM refresh rate of 492Hz.

According to AndroidCentral, the displays that Samsung used in the Galaxy S24 series feature a higher PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) refresh rate of 492Hz. It’s double the PWM refresh rate of the Galaxy S23 series, making the panel friendly to sensitive eyes.

To recall, Galaxy flagships featuring OLED panels bring a PWM refresh rate of 240Hz. At the same time, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro has a PWM refresh rate of 480Hz, with Pixel 8 screens still capped at 246Hz. Meanwhile, Chinese brands shipped their devices with up to 1920Hz or 2160Hz PWM dimming.

In case your eyes are sensitive to the PWM dimming of OLED panels and can notice banding, any of the Galaxy S24 devices will offer betterment. Meanwhile, if you are not among those with sensitive eyes, S24’s higher PWM refresh rate might not mean much.
