Samsung Galaxy S24 AI Features Deep Dive: What Runs Offline, What Needs Cloud?

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S24 series with tons of new features derived from Galaxy AI. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and Exynos 2400 chipsets bring On-device AI capabilities. However, it’s not easy to determine which features require online processing and which are not.

Thankfully, Reddit user FragmentedChicken (via MishaalRahman) compiled a table of Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S24 series. The table lists various AI-powered features and how they work; requirements of Samsung Account, On-device, and Cloud processing.

While most Galaxy AI features require a Samsung Account login, the Generative Wallpaper function is an exception here. It is said that the S24 series has Pixel 8’s generative wallpaper app installed in the One UI 6.1, which introduces the ability to create text to wallpaper.

Features that work with On-device processing don’t require an internet connection such as Live Translate, Chat Translation, Style and grammar, Interpreter, Translate and Transcript assist in voice recorder app, as well as Translate in Samsung Internet and Photo ambient wallpaper.

Samsung confirmed that most of the Galaxy AI experiences coming to flagship devices released in 2023 via software update. The Galaxy S23 series (S23 FE included), Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets are eligible for Galaxy AI update.
