Galaxy Ring and iRing coming as Samsung, Apple eye XR era?

Samsung teased Galaxy Ring, right before concluding the Galaxy Unpacked last month. The Smart Ring is expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 in the second half. Meanwhile, Apple could also be eyeing to enter Smart Ring market to bind it with XR portfolio.

While Samsung is expected to introduce its Smart Galaxy Ring this year, Apple also eyeing the new kind of wearable. In this regard, the company last year applied for a patent related to a smart ring that can be linked with other devices through a short-range wireless communication circuit.

Apple’s first XR headset – Vision Pro going on sale this month, at the same time, Samsung has also raised its focus on the product. Samsung’s upcoming XR device could be unveiled later this year, and the first apparently planning to combine Galaxy Ring as a crucial tool.

This is a technology that allows the Apple Ring to be used in conjunction with iPhones and iPads. Besides, the company has also patented a tech for a ring to detect the user’s body movements and measure the user’s distance from a specific object.

It has been speculated that the Apple Ring will play the role of a ‘mouse’ to manipulate objects in the virtual space of Vision Pro in the future. Samsung, on the other hand, is already working on a similar approach, with product ecosystem already being created.
