Published

on

If you have an Android phone and installed the latest Google Play system update, you may have noticed some issues with your device’s storage. Some users are experiencing issues like app crashing, inability to take screenshots, and inconsistent external storage performance after installing the January 2024 update. This issue is currently occurring in Pixel phones.

Google has acknowledged the issue and is working on a solution but it has not given an exact date for its release. However, until then, there is a way to restore your storage functionality without losing any data.

The solution involves using some developer tools called ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to uninstall the two system components that are causing the problem. You will also need to enable Developer options and USB debugging on your phone.

To fix it, just need to uninstall two system components using ABD commands and then restart your phone. The commands are.

  • ./adb uninstall com.google.android.media.swcodec
  • ./adb uninstall com.google.android.media

You can find the full instructions from Google here. Note that you should turn off USB debugging and Developer options after completing the workaround. In this way, you can fix the storage issues on your Pixel phone until Google releases a permanent solution.
