One UI 6.1 update turns off a useful Android feature by default

Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update has brought many improvements and new features to its Galaxy devices, but it also has some drawbacks. One of them is that it disables notification channels, or categories, by default.

Introduced in Android 8.0 Oreo, the Notification channels feature allows users to customize the types of notifications they receive from each app. This feature can be very handy for filtering out unwanted or annoying notifications. Users can choose which channels to enable or disable, and also adjust their sound, vibration, and priority settings.

However, in One UI 6.1, this feature is hidden behind a toggle in the Advanced Settings menu of the Notifications section. This means that many users who are unaware of this feature or how to enable it may miss out on a valuable option to control their notifications.

But, you can also enable this feature by following a few steps. Users just need to go to Settings >> Notifications >> Advanced Settings and turn on the Manage notification categories for each app option. This will restore the notification channels menu in each app’s notification settings, where users can customize them as they wish.
