MediaTek reportedly offered Samsung an exclusive discount to boost the use of its chipsets. While the Taiwanese chip maker is eyeing Samsung’s wallet, flagship Galaxy phones will continue to use Snapdragon chips due to a multiyear agreement with Qualcomm.

According to tipster Revegnus, MediaTek offered Samsung a special discount for its chipsets. The Galaxy maker would consider MediaTek’s offer, but the use case will be limited to budget Galaxy handsets. MediaTek expects to rival Qualcomm later this year with the Dimensity 9400.

Qualcomm has recently announced the extension of its agreement with Samsung. Starting in 2024, the company has reached a new contract with Samsung for Galaxy-exclusive chipsets. At the same time, the Galaxy maker is developing both premium and budget Exynos chips.

While Snapdragon chips will continue to power Galaxy flagships, we may see a partnership between Samsung and MediaTek in the future. The company would consider using MediaTek chips if it becomes available cheaper than the cost of its own Exynos chipset.
