EU mandates 12-month warranty extension on repairs

The European Union forced Apple to ditch its lightning port in favor of USB C-Type. Now, The EU has reached a provisional deal on right-to-repair legislation, which will force vendors to offer an additional 12-month guarantee for products repaired under warranty.

According to the info, the European Council and Parliament have reached a provisional deal on specific right-to-repair legislation. Once a product is repaired under warranty, the vendor will be required to extend the warranty period by an additional 12 months.

It will also force manufacturers to offer spare parts at a reasonable price and can’t block the use of second-hand parts. Apart from this, the European Union also plans to offer an online repair platform that would list the different repair services across Europe.

It has been reported that the legislation will also restrict vendors from preventing the use of second-hand or 3D-printed spare parts by independent repairers. It would also introduce a standardized repair information form for repairers.
