Google’s Pixel Watch 2 gets Material You and grid view app drawer

Google recently released a February 2024 update for the Pixel Watch 2 to enhance security and performance. The update also brings new features for the smartwatch that are Material You dynamic theming and a grid view app drawer but for limited users. This update is based on Wear OS 4.

These new features are not yet available to the public, but the tipster @MishaalRahman (AndroidAuthority) has managed to enable them for an early look. The company will make these features available for all soon, perhaps in the March 2024 Pixel Feature Drop.

Material You is Google’s design language that adapts the UI and app colors to the current watch face. Users can choose to match the system theme to the watch face or select from a list of preset themes. The new “watch face & style” menu under Settings lets users easily change the watch face or system theme.

On the other side, the grid view app drawer is another design change that makes it easier to access installed apps. Instead of a single-column list view, the app drawer now shows a three-column grid view of app icons. Users can switch between the grid view and the list view by tapping the buttons at the bottom of the app drawer.

Material You support will be available on other Wear OS 4 devices, while the grid view app drawer will be exclusive to the Pixel smartwatches.
