For the first time, Apple surpassed Samsung in the global smartphone shipments in 2023. Massive sales of iPhone models and the rising popularity of premium smartphones made Samsung slip to 2nd spot. Meanwhile, Samsung’s AI-fueled Galaxy S24 promises a new chapter in 2024.

Recently, Canalys published a “Top 10 shipped smartphones in 2023” analysis for the global market. The chart reveals that Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra is out of the world’s top 10 most shipped phones. However, the table is 70% occupied by Apple iPhones.

The report showcases that the top 10 shipped smartphone models worldwide in 2023 consisted of 7 Apple and 3 Samsung Galaxy models. It marked the first year that an iPhone Pro model topped the annual ranking of most shipped smartphone models.

Samsung’s Galaxy A14 4G ranked 6th, securing 21 million shipments. However, the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A14 5G ranked 8th and 9th, respectively. Apart from these 3 devices from Samsung, there’s no Android phone ranked in the top 10 spot in 2023.

While 2023 was Apple’s year, Samsung has brought the Galaxy AI to the market to begin a new era in the smartphone industry. Apple seems to be in panic mode, resulting in the iOS 18 and iPhone 16 lineup being rumored to get Artificial Intelligence capabilities.
