Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System at MWC 2024

At MWC 2024, Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System, AI Hub, commercial AI-enabled devices, and a FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity system. Here let’s discuss the features and capabilities of Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful 5G modem for smartphones.

The Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System is said to be the world’s first 5G modem with fully integrated NB-NTN satellite communications support. It is equipped with a future-ready architecture to support 5G Advanced, the next era of 5G connectivity in the global 5G roadmap.

This new Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System promises a Peak Download Speed of 10 Gbps and a Peak Upload Speed of 3.5 Gbps. It also boasts AI innovations for enhanced data speeds, latency, quality of service, coverage, location accuracy, and power efficiency.

Furthermore, operators can also benefit from its superior performance and flexibility, with features like 6x carrier aggregation and advanced spectrum utilization. Qualcomm says it has a tensor accelerator to power a few “AI” features, such as mmWave range extension.

Other improvements include a 30% boost in location accuracy, a reduction of 20% for best-cell selection time, 30% faster link acquisition, and 60% faster CPE service acquisition for mmWave connections and more. Furthermore, the devices with Snapdragon X80 are expected to be released in the latter half of 2024, so we can expect it in Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC.
