At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, Deutsche Telekom unveiled a new concept phone that does not use any apps but depends entirely on AI to meet user’s needs.

The app-free experimental device is developed in partnership with Qualcomm and Brain.AI. As per the AndroidAuthority, the phone is designed to offer a seamless and intuitive user interface that responds to prompts such as the user can ask the AI to suggest a travel place, a restaurant, or a product to buy or to share a photo with their contacts.

The company’s CEO, Tim Hoettges, said that this concept phone represents a possible future for smartphones, where apps will become outdated. He said, “I can tell you that in 5-10 years from now, nobody from us will use apps anymore.”

However, the AI phone is still just a concept, and there is no guarantee that it will ever become a reality. Moreover, the idea of an app-free AI phone is not fully new, as Brain.AI already has an iOS app that claims to do the same thing. However, the app has received mostly negative reviews from users.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Deutsche Telekom’s AI phone concept will be able to overcome the challenges and limitations of app-less AI, or whether it will remain just a concept.
