Google Maps makes navigation easier with glanceable directions feature

Google Maps has introduced the Glanceable directions feature, which is available on both Android and iOS devices. It allows users to see where to turn and how long it will take to reach their destination without unlocking their phone or tapping the screen.

In addition to the device’s lock screen, Glanceable directions show up on the route overview screen that appears before starting the navigation. Users can see the next turn, the live ETA, and the distance remaining to their destination. Google Maps will also automatically update the route if the user deviates from the original path.

Google Maps users can enable or disable the glanceable directions while navigating feature through Settings >> Navigation settings >> Tapping the “Glanceable directions while navigating”  toggle option. When the feature is off you can see a blue colored dot to mark the location, while when enabled it changes to an arrow.

Back in February 2023, Google announced this feature and started rolling it out globally in June 2023. Now, this feature is widely available on Android and iOS devices. However, some iOS users have reported that they still do not see the feature that powers glanceable directions on the iPhone.
