Samsung is been leading the foldable phone market for decades and the tech giant has also worn the crown in Q4 2023 despite lower-than-expected sales of fifth-generation foldables. But now it seems like Samsung could drop to second place in the foldable phone market in Q1 and Q2 of 2024

According to the report of DSCC, Huawei is expected to overtake Samsung in the foldable phone market share for the first time in Q1 and Q2 2024 on the strength of the newly released Mate X5, Pocket 2, and the lack of new Galaxy products from the Korean tech giant.

In addition, Huawei is expected to drive the Q1 2024 foldable phone market to jump 105% Y/Y. However, Samsung is expected to regain leadership in the second half of 2024 and lead for all of 2024 with a large advantage over Huawei.

In the quarter fourth of 2023, the foldable smartphone shipments rose by 33% on a year-on-year basis to 4.2M, which is the fourth highest total to date. Samsung led the market in Q4 2023 with even lower than expected sell-through of its Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5.

Whereas, Huawei and Honor each gained a share in Q4 2023. Among the top 10 best-selling models, there were four from Samsung, two each from Honor and Oppo, and one each from Huawei and Xiaomi.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 remained the best-selling model followed by the Huawei Mate X4, the Honor Magic Vs2, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Oppo Find N3 Flip.
