Samsung plans to begin Glass Substrates mass production in 2026
Samsung Electro-Mechanics a subsidiary of the Samsung Group, has commenced joint R&D on glass substrates with major electronic affiliates such as Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display. However, the mass production of these Samsung Glass Substrates will reportedly begin in 2026.
As per the details, the Samsung affiliates formed a united front and began joint R&D to accelerate the commercialization of glass substrate. Among both, Samsung Electronics contributes expertise in semiconductor and substrate integration, while Samsung Display is anticipated to take on roles in glass processing
To be mentioned, the Samsung glass substrates that will go into mass production in 2026 are called the dream substrate. However, the strategy behind this collaboration is to succeed in commercialization faster than Intel, a semiconductor rival company that entered glass substrate R&D 10 years ago.
Notably, it is the first time that Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been reported to collaborate with electronic component affiliates such as Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display on glass substrate research. Therefore, it remains to be seen how the glass substrate ecosystem of the Samsung consortium will develop.

Glass substrates are boards for semiconductors that optimize connections between chips and electronic devices. Compared to traditional plastic substrates, glass substrates can carve circuits more finely, reduce thickness, and withstand heat, making them advantageous for large-area integration and high-performance chip coupling.
