Samsung introduces Seamless Updates with Galaxy A55 5G

Samsung has updated its Galaxy A55 5G model with March 2024 security patch, which brings a new Android feature called “Seamless updates”. This feature was previously available only on Google Pixel phones, allowing faster and more efficient system updates.

The Galaxy A55 5G is the first in Samsung’s smartphone to receive the Seamless Updates feature, even before the latest Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This feature lets the phone update in the background, so users can continue using their device without interruption. Once the update is ready, a simple restart is all that’s needed to do.

Now, the update process on the A55 5G is divided into two parts – ‘Downloading and Installing’ and  ‘Verification.’ This is a change from the usual update screen seen on other Samsung devices. The feature works on the A/B mechanism.

When an update is available, it is installed on the inactive partition. After the phone is restarted, it switches to the updated partition. It is a time-saving and secure method as well as it can revert to the previous version if there’s an issue during the update. However, it does need more storage space on the device.

As Samsung continues to roll out the Seamless Updates feature, it is expected that other models especially the high-end ones will soon benefit from seamless updates.
