Samsung Display uplifts focus on small, medium-sized AMOLED

Samsung Display reportedly rouses its focus on the development of small and medium-sized AMOLED. KEDGlobal reports that Samsung’s Display subsidiary has transferred around 500 of its engineers from its large-area OLED development division.

As the clash with China’s BOE continues to rise, Samsung Display is striving to remain competitive. The biggest factor is that BOE is offering OLED panels at lower prices than Samsung, leading it to reshuffle some of its staff and focus on mobile OLED development.

Samsung estimates that it is ahead of its Chinese competitors by only a year or a year and a half, the report says. Samsung Display reportedly admits that China-based display vendors catch up with South Korean makers including LG Display.

The company has initiated OLED production at the 8.6-Gen IT AMOLED production line. IT displays, laptops, monitors, and tablets, will be an area of focus in coming years as other display makers have followed suit and are also starting to construct competing lines.
