Samsung’s Texas semiconductor fab set to begin operation in 2026
Biden’s govt is awarding Samsung a $6.4 billion subsidy under the US CHIPS Act. As the company gets huge subsidies, it will ramp up its semiconductor production. Samsung will establish an advanced semiconductor fab in Texas, USA, with operations set to commence in 2026.
According to reports, Samsung aims to begin production of second-generation 3nm chips later this year and 2nm next year. In particular, Samsung’s Texas chip fab is scheduled to operate in 2026, and a second one will be completed in 2027 that could focus on 2nm products.
Yesterday, Samsung disclosed its additional semiconductor investment plans in the US. The company has reportedly planned to build state-of-the-art foundries for 2nm process production and advanced packaging facilities to preempt the AI semiconductor market.
Earlier, it was revealed that the US govt pushed Samsung to increase investment in the US by facilitating huge subsidies. As a result, the South Korean tech giant plans to dramatically increase its investment in the country from $17 billion to over $40 billion.
This expansion includes constructing additional foundries and advanced packaging and R&D facilities in Taylor, Texas, alongside the existing foundry in Austin, Texas, which is also slated for expansion and might employ advanced processes.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 users are receiving the One UI 6.1.1 update in the US. This update is already available for users in Europe and India. It brings new features, enhancements, and the latest security patch to improve the overall Galaxy experience.
One UI 6.1.1 update is currently for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 smartphones on the Verizon network carrier in the US. The company will soon make it available for other carriers. You can check the latest One UI builds below.

To access One UI 6.1.1 features and enhancements on your smartphone, go to the Settings app, tap on Software Update, and then select Download and Install. This will initiate the update process, and once completed, you’ll enjoy a more personalized and efficient smartphone experience.

One UI 6.1.1 update arrives with exciting new features for the third generation of foldable devices. You can now get helpful wellness tips in Samsung Health, detailed sleep analysis, and create custom workout routines.
Moreover, the update improves productivity with suggested actions for Smart Select, easier file management, and enhanced multi-window support.
You can now clip photos easily and design a profile card for calls. It lets you enjoy quicker video controls, tap-to-answer calls, and frequent weather updates. For security enhancement, there’s an Auto Blocker for added protection. The Assistant menu is also improved for easier access.
Aside from this, the update includes a September 2024 security patch to improve system security. It fixes over 65 vulnerabilities from Google and Samsung to provide a more secure experience.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 users in Europe getting One UI 6.1.1 update
Samsung will host the Developer Conference 2024 in California tomorrow. Every year, the company has unveiled new One UI iterations at SDC. Things are not the same this year whether Samsung will unveil One UI 7 at SDC24 is uncertain.
The company tech giant announced to “celebrate a decade of open innovation and collaboration with developers, partners, and customers with a focus on how to make the most of today’s AI innovation.”
Samsung has scheduled a keynote speech for Sally Hyesoon Jeong, EVP, Head of Framework R&D, Mobile eXperience Business. For starters, Sally is the head of the One UI design department who takes the opportunity to debut new One UI versions.

The South Korean tech giant will highlight the latest cross-platform innovation opportunities including ways to leverage SmartThings, Galaxy AI, Knox, and Tizen for next-generation solutions for developers.
Galaxy AI is set to take center stage at tomorrow’s Developer Conference. Samsung hasn’t mentioned One UI anywhere in its SDC24 press releases so far. It also raises concern what are Samsung’s plans for this year’s One UI upgrade.
We assume that Samsung has some fruitful announcements about One UI 7 for SDC24. Galaxy S24 users are eagerly waiting for the Android 15-based One UI 7 Beta Program. However, there’s no sign of the testing activity so far.
Notably, CheckFirm hasn’t spotted any Beta firmware on Samsung’s server. Hence, there’s no certainty whether the company will begin One UI 7 Beta. It makes this year’s SDC important for general Galaxy consumers apart from developers.
