Samsung has yet to launch the Galaxy Ring, but it filed a patent dispute against Oura in the US. Previously, Oura officials reportedly stated to be having their eyes on Galaxy Ring development. Samsung was assumed to be sued by Oura, but that’s not the case.

TheElec reports Samsung sued Finnish firm Oura over the Ring patent in the US. The dispute includes patent infringement confirmation lawsuits and invalidity trials. Samsung is said to have filed a patent dispute to resolve uncertainties ahead of the Galaxy Ring launch.

Samsung vs Oura – Patent Disputes:

  1. Samsung filed a patent infringement confirmation lawsuit against Oura in the US California Eastern District Court.
  2. Samsung filed an invalidity trial (IPR) with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

A couple of weeks back, the South Korean tech giant commenced Galaxy Ring’s mass production. After teasing it at the beginning of the year, Samsung is preparing to release it next month’s Unpacked. The company’s first Ring-type wearable product is expected to be released in 8-9 sizes.

It is reported that Oura may have warned Samsung of suing for patent infringement. Therefore, the Korean tech giant has taken this step to resolve uncertainties ahead of its entry into the smart ring market.

Although Samsung has not yet released the Galaxy Ring, it displayed the Galaxy Ring in 9 sizes at MWC in February. Even if the product has not been released, the patent holder can claim patent infringement by looking at the exhibits or catalogs of potential competitors.
