Samsung 55th shareholders meeting

Workers union at Samsung Electronics kicked off a 3-day strike, demanding better pay. The company’s around 24% workers are supporting the strike directed by the union. Approx 30,000 employees are on strike from Samsung’s entire workforce.

It’s not the first time controversy created between Samsung and the workers union. The company was in discussion with its leaders for a long but negotiations failed. It results in employees going on strike to get their demands fulfilled and also includes additional leave.

It is reported that workers gathered en masse near Samsung’s HQ in Hwaseong, south of Seoul. It is said that 6,540 workers are striking this week, mostly at manufacturing sites and in product development. There is also a complaint that the bonus system is unfair and needs a revisit.

“Education about labour unions for union members and employees has not been enough. But I don’t think this participation is low because our union is still young compared to other unions,” Union president Son Woo-mok said.

The National Samsung Electronics Labor Union (NSU) is the largest labor union at Samsung. This is the first time that the company’s union has gone on a general strike since its foundation in 1967.

Samsung Galaxy S24 July 2024 update

Satellite connectivity feature is lacking in the most recent Samsung Galaxy phones. Apple and many Chinese phone makers adopted this technology about two years ago. Meanwhile, Samsung has been keeping it reserved with the Galaxy S23 and S24 series devices.

Samsung is now preparing to deploy a Satellite connectivity feature to Galaxy phones. Various Samsung apps show signs of the under-development feature. Galaxy phones are likely to get it through various communication applications.

Google Messages has been adopting the Satellite SMS feature. Samsung seems to be working with Google to optimize this feature on Galaxy devices. The recent code changes in Samsung Messages suggest that Satellite SMS could be possible on Galaxy through Google Messages.

When required, Samsung Messages will redirect Galaxy users to Google Messages. It will allow them to send SOS messages through Google’s messaging apps by connecting to satellites. It will be quite helpful when your device loses network connection given any reason.

AndroidAuthority performed APKTeardown on several Samsung apps. Native Galaxy apps such as Emergency SOS, Samsung Messages, and Samsung Phone show signs of satellite messaging feature. The deployment to general consumers could take place with Android 15 later this year.

The recent Apple iPhone models are equipped with Satellite connectivity technology. Huawei and Honor have also debuted it in their recent flagship phones. Beyond that, Huawei’s flagship smartwatch is also capable to let to sending SOS through satellite.

While the feature isn’t in demand, Samsung is lacking in the deployment on Galaxy. A small number of users would have been waiting for it on Galaxy. Hence, the company isn’t in the mood to lag behind its rivals in any aspect that has become a basic functionality in the industry.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series may get the satellite connectivity tech through Google Messages. The development is running well thanks to the inclusion of strings in the latest app versions. We will keep you updated with further developments.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Samsung wants to make the next Galaxy Z Fold phone to be thinner than a regular bar-type phone. The company has recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is 1.3mm slimmer and 14 grams lighter than its predecessor.

According to KEDGlobal, TM Roh instructed Samsung engineers to make the next Galaxy Z Fold phone thinner than the S24 Ultra. Not that all, the engineers are reportedly ordered to further reduce the thickness to 7mm when folded.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12mm thick when folded and weighs 239 grams. It’s a sharp decline in both thickness and weight compared to the previous Fold models. The company wants to further solidify its edge in the global foldable market.

Samsung’s MX Division is also working to reduce the weight of the next foldables below 239 grams. The report mentions that a 10mm thick Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could be launched by the end of this year, followed by thinner models in the future.

The Flim model of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could have a larger 8-inch screen than the 7.6-inch Z Fold 6 screen when unfolded. These developments indicate that the Korean tech giant is working hard to make foldable phones its mainstream products similar to Galaxy S.

Samsung has launched task force teams for game development in four countries with research branches in Korea, the UK, China, and Ukraine. It’s also partnering with Google and other Android app developers to produce foldable-specific apps.

Samsung is slowly but amazingly reducing the thickness of Galaxy Z Fold models. The company’s first Galaxy Fold launched in 2019 was 17.1mm thick. Meanwhile, this year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 has reached the thickness level of 12.1mm when folded.

The Korean tech giant is getting fierce competition in the foldable smartphone market. The entry of Chinese vendors and their aggressive marketing forced Samsung to evolve faster. It all delivers fruitful upgrades for the general consumers.
