Samsung unveiled its next-gen BioActive Sensor used in the Galaxy Watch 7 series. The new health monitoring sensor brings an advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index. It will further strengthen Samsung’s commitment to the health and wellness market.

BioActive Sensor is a wearable hardware developed by Samsung. It delivers accurate health tracking on Galaxy Watch by offering more personalized and accurate health data. The company’s press release confirms that the new smartwatches feature the next-gen BioActive sensor.

The next batch of Samsung Galaxy Watch is packed full of hardware and software upgrades. While the company is set to utilize its first 3nm Exynos W1000 chipset, the Wear OS 5 is also a big deal. It is also confirmed to power many Galaxy AI features for health monitoring.

Samsung specifically notes that the new BioActive Sensor will enable advanced predictive and preventative wellness features besides more accurate health measurements. The induction of advanced glycation end products index also empowers the next Galaxy Watch.

AGEs is an indicator of metabolic health and biological aging strongly influenced by overall lifestyle and dietary habits. It delivers a snapshot of your biological age to help you make more informed decisions about your wellness journey and work towards a healthier future.

Samsung engineers focused on three upgrades to the new BioActive Sensor: enhancing the performance of light-receiving photodiodes, adding additional colors of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and arranging them optimally across the sensor.

The new sensor features 2x performance of each photodiode. As a result, the number needed to maintain capacity decreased from eight to four. The company used the vacated space to integrate a larger number and variety of LEDs to ensure optimal performance.

Samsung’s new BioActive Sensor is packed with Blue, Yellow, Violet, and Ultraviolet LEDs. Notably, Green, Red and Infrared LEDs used in the previous iteration also increased.

This optimized structure improves accuracy and enables exceptional performance, offering more accurately measured health metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and stress levels.
