Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 struggles with ‘slow’ sales

Samsung One UI 6.1.1 Capture update

The newly released Z Fold 6 seems to be struggling with slow sales. Samsung reported less than 300,000 unit sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the first two weeks of launch. It’s a big blow to the company’s ambitions to attain 10% YoY growth.

Tipster IceUniverse revealed Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 sales were only 270,000 units in the first two weeks. The sales figure is for the global market, not just South Korea where the Z Fold 5 sold about 300,000 units during pre-orders.

The Korean tech giant sold around 1 million foldable during pre-orders last year. The overall sale consisted of 70% of the Flip and the remaining 30% of Fold. That said, the Z Fold 5 sold 300,000 units during pre-orders in Korea alone.

The foldable smartphone market hasn’t yet saturated. Consumers still prefer buying bar-type smartphones over foldable ones. The main concern is durability and extremely heavy pricing, leading to avoiding the purchase.

The company fueled the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 with Galaxy AI. However, the artificial intelligence trick is seemingly unable to push foldable sales. There are many refinements but not any major upgrades to attract potential buyers.

Meanwhile, Samsung is working to innovate its foldable segment further. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold SE is said to have a more durable UFG glass technology. It will offer better protection against scratches as well as less visible creases around the folding area.
