[Report] Samsung to use solid-state battery in Galaxy Watch in 2026
Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 series could pack solid-state battery in 2026. While everyone’s waiting for the advanced battery tech to come in Galaxy phones, Samsung seems to have different plans. Similar to the 3nm chip, the next big hardware evolution might be seen in Samsung’s wearable segment before smartphones.
Korea’s Bloter reports that Samsung is expected to use solid-state battery tech in wearable devices such as the Galaxy Watch. The company is accelerating its research and development, with plans for mass production in 2026. Galaxy Watch 9 could be the first to be equipped with this futuristic battery technology with many advantages.
The Korean tech giant is accelerating the development of small solid-state batteries. Unlike the conventional battery tech, solid-state batteries are based on oxide, which is advantageous for miniaturization and mass production. The technology also offers freedom to shape as well as a lower risk of explosion than lithium-ion batteries.
As wearable devices come into direct contact, Samsung might use it in the Galaxy Watch. It would be a one-of-its-kind development in the wearable industry. The company has recently launched the Watch 7 series, with Watch 8 will tentatively release next year. In 2026, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 9 series will hit the market, probably with new battery tech.
Earlier this year, Samsung discussed its roadmap for solid-state battery technology. The company also teased a product that charges 80% in 9 minutes, featuring 20 years of life. Samsung SDI division is said to be developing the solid-state battery with its super-gap technology that promises superfast charging and a 20-year life of battery.
Solid-state battery is a futuristic technology, that delivers advantages to both OEMs and consumers. It uses a solid electrolyte rather than liquid or gel polymer electrolytes found in lithium-ion batteries. It’s comparatively less likely to catch fire given the solid electrolyte is nonflammable.
The products are still under development as manufacturers can’t make any decision in a hurry. As for Samsung, it has to have additional precautions as consumers will never forget what happened with the Galaxy Note 7. As the development is progressing well, Samsung could manage to commercialize its solid-state battery Watch by 2026.
