Cellebrite cracked Samsung phone used by Donald Trump shooter
Israel-based Cellebrite assisted the US FBI in cracking the Samsung phone used by the Donald Trump shooter. Last Saturday, a man named Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on former US President Donald Trump.
According to Bloomberg, the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia managed to crack the Samsung Galaxy used by the Donald Trump shooter. This development came after the FBI’s announcement on Sunday about the failure to unlock Crooks’ phone.
The report mentions that the Israel-based firm shared unreleased software. Using this software, the American FBI gained access to the shooter’s smartphone. The report also sheds light on more details about this process and the phone used.
Bloomberg report says the shooter used a “newer Samsung model that runs Android’s operating system.” After an unsuccessful attempt by the FBI, Cellebrite gave the FBI access to “additional technical support and new software that was still being developed.”
The unreleased software provided by Cellebrite helped the FBI unlock the device in 40 minutes. It has been reported that the shooter had “photos on his phone of the former Republican president, President Joe Biden and other officials.”
The FBI also reportedly found searches for “information about major depressive disorder” on the phone.
