Samsung Galaxy S24’s One UI 6.1.1 update renders weird fingerprint issues

Samsung Customization service September 2024 update

One UI 6.1.1 update causing fingerprint issues on the Galaxy S24 series. Some Korean users reported fingerprint authentication issues following the recent One UI upgrade on their Galaxy S24 series smartphone.

As spotted by SamsonSirJi/X, One UI 6.1.1 renders weird fingerprint issues on the Galaxy S24 series. Users report that the fingerprint either automatically misinterprets authentication or declines to recognize the pre-applied fingerprint.

Another concern emerged when Samsung Pay didn’t recognize fingerprints. It could also be an issue generated by the app’s software support limitations. It could be resolved by reinstalling the application from scratch.

A user claimed that the fingerprint authentication itself was performed when the phone was in the pocket. After 5 failed attempts, the device restricted fingerprint authentication. The handset could be unlocked using the primary lock method (pin or pattern).

The rollout is in its initial stage, gradually expanding coverage. At the time of writing, the company hasn’t acknowledged the fingerprint problem. If it appears a widespread problem, Samsung may be forced to halt the rollout to address the bug.

Clearing the app’s cache should be tried if the issue is limited to an individual app. For the lock screen, users having affected devices should restart the device. If the issue persists, feedback should be submitted attaching a log file for investigation.

Samsung will push the global One UI 6.1.1 rollout starting September 9. The expansion of Phase II devices is scheduled to commence on September 12. The Galaxy S22 series is set to receive select camera and gallery features this month.
