Samsung is equipping the US Police with Galaxy Z Flip phones. The company today revealed that it had conducted a six-month-long pilot project. The project was complete with officers reporting successful results.

Last week, Samsung released the latest iteration of its Flip phone – Galaxy Z Flip 6. The smartphone has landed in the market alongside the Z Fold 6. These phones come with the fastest Snapdragon processor and the latest mobile operating system.

The Korean tech giant says that it explored ways to broaden usage of Galaxy Z Flip phones to US Police. The handsets were expanded to the San Benito and the Craighead County Sheriff’s departments.

Why Galaxy Z Flip?

Samsung says it chose its Flip-style foldable given its unique form factor. Flippable phones offer a lightweight and compact design. The company also collaborated with Visual Labs to ensure that devices were made with the best quality.

Samsung and Visual Labs worked together to customize the device, including remapping the volume button to start camera recordings. The body camera function can also be activated by detecting high speed while pursuing a suspect.

With the support of Visual Labs technology, video data can also be stored in the cloud instantaneously, allowing footage to be live streamed to the police force’s command center and viewed in real-time.

Kimberling City Police Department Chief of Police, Todd Lemoine said, “We chose the Galaxy Z Flip due to the wide array of benefits it brings to our team, and we’re delighted to say that we’ve had incredible results. We’ve seen response and investigation efforts be significantly improved by its overall ease of use and ability to enhance communications across teams. These devices put powerful resources right at the fingertips of our force.”
