Galaxy S24’s AI craze declining, Samsung has to innovate further

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S24 series with AI features. The company recorded positive outcomes with the induction of artificial intelligence in its flagships. However, the Galaxy AI hype has been declining for the past few months.

Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Samsung Galaxy S24 shipment momentum has slowed since April despite Galaxy AI. This means the Korean tech giant’s latest flagships remained in trend for the first three months of launch.

Thanks to Galaxy AI, Samsung reported higher-than-expected shipments with the Galaxy S24 series. The company has recently launched AI-powered foldable phones, but they are less likely to increase their shipments YoY.

The analyst notes that the new phone’s first-month pre-orders with down 10% YoY. At the same time, total shipments of Samsung’s foldable phones this year are estimated to decline slightly year over year to around 8–9 million units.

AI and On-device AI smartphone market will continue to be in market spotlight. Smartphone makers are aggressively adopting artificial intelligence in their products. Apple’s entry in the segment will further grow the AI Phone market.

Samsung is preparing to introduce the Galaxy S25 series early next year. Google’s also bringing its new AI-powered Pixel phones today. The continued arrival of AI products will help the market keep momentum for artificial intelligence.

However, it would be difficult for vendors to present AI as worthy of an early upgrade. Nowadays, people use their smartphones for at least two to three years. If there’s no groundbreaking hardware upgrade, buying a new phone is considered a waste of money.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max getting Apple Intelligence with iOS 18. The upcoming iPhone 16 lineup is expected to be equipped with additional AI features. The company is also planning to fuel AI into its forthcoming SE variant.
