Google Pixel 9 series is equipped with a Samsung-like ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The previous Pixel phones helped Google gain its market internationally. However, the slow speed of fingerprint authentication remained a big trouble.

Samsung uses ultrasonic fingerprint sensors in Galaxy flagships. Google has also opted for Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Gen 2 sensor. It is 50% faster than the fingerprint sensors used in previous Pixel phones including Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold doesn’t feature Qualcomm’s fingerprint reader. It doubles the power button as a fingerprint authentication key. However, it isn’t a big concern on foldable smartphones as the sensor is embedded with a power key.

Google’s Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The lock screen animation such as the White glow on the reader area requires some work, but you will feel a quite faster unlocking experience.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series flagships earlier this year. The lineup packs a slightly newer generation of the sensor. Meanwhile, Google’s adoption of 3D Sonic Gen 2 is worth welcoming over previous Pixel smartphones.
