Google Messages revamps Gemini Button: Here’s how to hide it

Google Messages recently added a new option that lets users hide the Gemini button. This new feature comes just as a redesigned version of the Gemini floating action button (FAB) and has been criticized by many users.

Several users reported that the new design is too large and gets in the way to block parts of the screen. Some think it might be a bug in the beta build version 20240812_01_RC00 of the Google Messages.

Previously, the Gemini button was a small FAB with a sparkle icon. The latest update changes this design by adding the text “Gemini” alongside the icon which makes it larger and more prominent.

After the latest update, users see two FABs of similar width. The first one is the Gemini button and the other is the “Start chat” button, which is slightly taller. As users scroll through their messages, both buttons shrink into rounded squares with sparkle and chat icons.

These buttons take up considerable screen space, so you can resolve it by turning off a simple option. Yes, Google has provided an option to disable the Gemini button. Users can go to Settings >> Gemini within the Messages app to turn off the feature if they find the new design unappealing.

After activating this feature, the button automatically shrinks to a rounded square while scrolling the chats list and you can enjoy a cleaner interface.
