Samsung is reportedly working on the development of a Slim-named foldable. A new report claims that Samsung could equip the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim with a Titanium backplate (back panel). The decision is yet to be made, but hinting at a massive surprise.

TheElec reports that Samsung could bring a Titanium backplate to Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. The company is planning to decide between SUS and Titanium as back panel material. The Display unit has recently completed the development of a Titanium back.

Samsung’s foldables’ backplates have been made of metal material SUS and plastic material carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The Z Flip 6 features a backplate made of SUS material. The Z Fold 6 boasts a backplate made using carbon fiber-reinforced plastic.

At Samsung’s request, its Display subsidiary collaborated with several partners. Replacing the SUS backplate with Titanium material can reduce the weight and increase strength. The disadvantage is that Titanium is more difficult to process than SUS.

It is reported that some parts of Z Fold 6 Slim already entered mass production. The decision on the material of the backplate is yet to be finalized. The company is likely to finalize this component at the earliest so mass production could commence.

Samsung’s Z Fold 6 Slim is rumored to be equipped with a 6.5-inch cover and 8-inch internal screen. It is said to be around 11mm thick when folded compared to the 12.1mm thickness of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6.

To reduce the thickness, the company has removed the digitizer material. It will result in no S Pen stylus support on the inner screen. The Slim variant’s availability could be restricted to South Korea and China only.
