Apple will bring a choice screen to alter the Default Apps across the EU. The company known for its restricted ecosystem is gradually surrendering to the European Union. Stock apps could also be uninstalled in the region.

Recently, Apple officially announced iPhone and iPad users in the EU will be able to alter the Default Apps and uninstall pre-loaded native apps. The move comes to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act.

Apple users will now get a Choice Screen to set the Default Web Browser. Following the upgrade due later this year, iPhone and iPad owners will have the option to change default apps through a pop-up screen during the initial setup.

iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will include a new Default Apps section in Settings in EU. Users will get new default settings for dialing phone numbers, sending messages, translating text, navigation, managing passwords, keyboards, and call spam filters.

“By the end of this year, we’ll make changes to the browser choice screen, default apps, and app deletion for iOS and iPadOS for users in the EU. These updates come from our ongoing and continuing dialogue with the European Commission about compliance with the Digital Market Act’s requirements in these areas.” – Apple Newsroom.

Not that all but users can also replace the default calling and messaging apps with their third-party alternatives. These default settings can be changed in a new settings section that will be added in the future through an upgrade.

Pre-loaded Apple apps such as Safari, App Store, Photos, Camera, and iMessage can now be uninstalled. Pre-installed apps basically called bloatware come with restrictions on deletion from the manufacturer.

Apple confirmed the arrival of Choice Screen in March this year. Third-party app platforms accused the company of violating DMA provisions. Later, the EU investigated the violations and ordered the modification of the Choice Screen.

Pixel 9’s AI Magic Editor features could be coming to older models through Google Photos. The company seemingly working to optimize two new Magic Editor features called Auto Frame and Reimagine for older Pixel phones.

AndroidAuthority reports that Pixel 9’s AI-powered Auto Frame and Reimagine features could come to Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 series with Google Photos update. This surprising info was discovered right under the codes and strings of Google Photos APK.

Code and strings related to the Pixel 9’s Reimagine and Auto Frame appearing in the Google Photos app for Pixel 6 to Pixel 8. It’s a clear indication that the US tech giant plans to roll out Pixel 9 features across Tensor-powered models.

Google’s new Pixel 9 introduces cool camera features such as Add Me, Video Boost with Night Sight, and more. The company has a habit of expanding newly added features with select older models that fulfill hardware requirements.

The new Magic Editor’s Auto Frame automatically frames your chosen subject, even if that requires expanding the image using AI. Whereas Reimagine lets you change backgrounds with the power of generative artificial intelligence.

Google Photos could add these new features in a future Feature Drop. The company may also expand the new additions to all Android phones through a Google One subscription, the same way Pixel 8’s Magic Editor rolled out earlier.

Samsung has shown the mirror to Apple over the recently launched iPhone 16 as it can’t Flip or Fold. Apple dreams of entering the foldable phone market, but it’s already delayed in its entry and the wait won’t be over for at least two more years.

In the latest ‘different’ ad, Samsung mocked the Apple iPhone 16 through the Galaxy Z Flip 6. A graphical clip showcases a series of iPhones rolling. All are shown flat from the rear side and then comes the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in a half-unfolded state.

It’s all about showing off innovation and the edge of being the foldable market leader. Apple also wishes to launch its foldable display product. However, the company is waiting for years until the segment and products enter the mainstream.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 in July 2024. The company is preparing to introduce the Galaxy S25 series early next year. Meanwhile, a handful of new products such as the Galaxy S24 FE also arriving next year.
