Forget Slim, Ultra: Samsung to launch Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition

Samsung could launch Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition later this year. There have been rumors that the company is working on an Ultra variant. Later, it was expected to be marketed as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim.

In an explosive development, Evan Blass revealed Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is the next Samsung foldable. The leaker specifically mentioned that the rumored Slim or Ultra branded foldable phone isn’t coming.

If the leak is true, Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will debut sometime in September. It is said to have a larger cover and inner screen than the Z Fold 6. The company has also ditched S Pen support, resulting in a reduction in the thickness.

Samsung could bring the Special Edition foldable to just two markets: South Korea and China. A recent report revealed that the device will be available in a Black color shade with a price tag of 2.8 million won (approximately $2,100).

Being the first Special Edition Fold by Samsung, it would have a pretty thinner appearance. Reports say it could be around 10mm thick when folded. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 supporting S Pen is 12.1mm thick in the folded state.

Apple is also bringing the iPhone 16 series on September 9. The new iPhone lineup could feature a tweaked camera design. Premium models would also bring Apple Intelligence-powered Siri and some other artificial intelligence tricks.

The Korean tech giant may have kept the Apple event in mind. The launch of the Special Edition foldable could be an immediate answer to iPhone 16. The limited launch is also strategic as it will only be available in the foldable saturated markets.
