Is Samsung ditching the iconic S Pen slot from Galaxy S25 Ultra?

Update 8:10am (GMT-4)

Onleaks clarified that the Galaxy S25 Ultra CAD renders indeed have an S Pen slot. Due to the quality of the images, the S Pen slot is not clearly visible. However, the source hasn’t stated anything about the camera ring errors highlighted by IceUniverse.

Story continues…

Rumor has it that the Galaxy S25 Ultra supports the S Pen but the slot is unlikely. The recently leaked CAD renders lack the S Pen slot seen in the previous models. It suggests that the company would return to the S21 Ultra era next year.

The mockup video of the Galaxy S25 Ultra shows no in-frame silo for S Pen. Tipster IceUniverse previously claimed that the stylus input function will be available in the S25 Ultra. However, fresh developments indicate the re-arrival of the S21 Ultra era.

Leaker Roland Quandt also questioned the CAD renders that lack an S Pen compartment. The tipster verified the support of the S Pen in the upcoming S25 Ultra, but it looks like there will be no dedicated silo, but offered as an external accessory.

The removal of the integrated S Pen won’t hurt a broad audience. S Pen is indeed an iconic accessory, but people use it only occasionally. The company’s Galaxy Z Fold models also support stylus but lack a dedicated silo for storage.

Galaxy S21 Ultra was the first non-Note flagship that brought S Pen support. The device, however, missed the Note-like storage slot in the body. With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung turned the design boxy and unlocked the S Pen slot.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra also features a Note-inspired boxy design. The S Pen compartment is also there, but it seems to be the last model with it. After a curved display, Samsung could be ditching another iconic innovation from its flagship.

The CAD renders are subject to change with time.  There’s much time left in the official Samsung S25 unveiling. There could be modifications in product design strategy and we may only have an official look around December end.
