[Report] First Samsung tri-fold phone could launch in 2027

Samsung missed the opportunity to launch the world’s first tri-fold this year. Huawei launched the Mate XT handset, which features a dual-foldable display. Samsung is reportedly planning to launch the tri-fold phone in 2027.

Korea’s ZDNet reports that Samsung is discussing plans to launch a tri-fold model in 2027. The report also talks about a cheaper Flip device, which could not be released anytime soon as a Samsung official recently denied such a rumor.

Samsung Display has showcased the prototype of the tri-fold on many occasions. Industry insiders also believe that Samsung partners have completed the development of components to be used in the tri-fold model.

That said, Samsung Display partners are fully prepared for the tri-fold to be commercialized. It is up to the smartphone vendor to bring it to the market or keep limited to research labs for further durability evaluations.

Samsung is getting lower-than-expected response from the foldable market. Huawei’s rise has also made things tough for the Korean phone maker. With the release of Tri-fold, the US-banned firm solidified its presence in China.

Notably, Samsung Elec is having trouble in the foldable smartphone market. However, its Display subsidiary is enjoying sales growth as it supplies OLED panels to Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo for their latest foldable display phones.

Well, Samsung D’s growth is expected to be lesser than the last year. The overall shipments are expected to fall short of the initial estimates. China-based BOE is also expanding its footsteps to the mobile display supply chain.
