On January 10, Samsung officially unveiled its new rugged devices – Galaxy XCover 7 and Galaxy Tab Active 5. The new rugged smartphone and tablet are geared to handle rigorous challenges, including field and frontline work that demands versatility, optimization, and security.

The XCover7’s 6.6-inch display provides more surface area alongside increased resolution compared to previous generations. The Tab Active5’s 8.0-inch display offers greater visibility in outdoor conditions, thanks to increased display brightness, and a smoother viewing experience with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 and Tab Active 5 will offer enhanced mobility with 5G connectivity, an upgraded mobile processor, and increased memory. The XCover 7 Pro, in particular, comes with a new powerful rear camera and expanded display size and resolution.

Both devices are IP68-rated for water and dust resistance, ensuring enhanced durability. Built to the MIL-STD-810H3 military standard, the XCover7 is designed to be shock-resistant to drops of up to 1.5m, while the Tab Active5 can withstand a 1.8m drop (using protective case).

The Galaxy XCover7 and Galaxy Tab Active5 feature Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ and Corning Gorilla Glass 5, respectively, enhancing durability and scratch resistance. The device displays also allow for adjustments to touch sensitivity, making them easy to use for workers wearing gloves.

Samsung’s new Galaxy XCover7 has been upgraded to provide fast and reliable 5G, along with Wi-Fi 5, while the Galaxy Tab Active5 offers 5G and Wi-Fi 6. Both devices are engineered to offer powerful enterprise support while maintaining a slim, lightweight frame for use in the workplace or on the go.

The new Galaxy XCover 7 and Galaxy Tab Active 5 will be available starting January 2024.

Galaxy S25 Ultra will run Android 15-based One UI 7.1 if Samsung doesn’t change what it did in the past several years. Galaxy users are eagerly awaiting the Android 15 Beta Program, while work is also underway on S25’s firmware development.

Samsung will debut One UI 7.1 with the Galaxy S25 Ultra next year. The other two models; S25 and S25 Plus, will also boot the new version. It will include additional features and enhancements over the Android 15-based One UI 7.

One UI 7.1 – The next big thing?

There are many rumors about the upcoming One UI 7.1 skin. Samsung is said to be working on improving system animation and fluency. New AI features are certain, with battery optimization should remain in Samsung’s priority.

One UI x.1 Version – A brief overview

One UI 5.1: Released with the Galaxy S23 series, the Android 14-based One UI 5.1 software came with several new features such as improved customization options, a new battery widget, and a new Expert RAW camera app.

One UI 6.1: This version is based on Android 14 and launched with the Galaxy S24 series.  Over the One UI 6, the 6.1 brings a new design language, improved performance, and new features alongside a wide array of Galaxy AI functionalities.
