US Government could announce subsidy for Samsung Texas chip fab on March 28
Samsung Electronics has been in talks with the US government to secure subsidies for its Texas chip plant, and now this long discussion and wait seems to end. As US government is expected to announce its plan to provide semiconductor subsidy to Samsung Electronics Texas chip fab on March 28.
As per the report, Samsung Electronics DS division president Gyeong-hyeon will leave for the US on the 24th. President Kyung is scheduled to receive a report on the management status of the Austin, Texas Manufacturing Corporation (SAS) and the Taylor factory on the 25th after arriving in the US.
Afterward, the executive will attend the semiconductor support announcement event hosted by the US Department of Commerce on the 28th, and at this same conference the US Government could reveal the amount of subsidy for the Samsung Texas chip fab as the mass production is scheduled to begin in 2025.

The subsidy that Samsung Electronics will receive is estimated to be at least $6 billion (8 trillion won). In addition, some prediction also states that the government could receive subsidies that are twice as large as the initially expected maximum amount of about 5 trillion won.
Furthermore, a senior Samsung Electronics official familiar with the situation said, “Samsung Electronics may have entered into an additional, separate deal with the United States related to Chips Act,” and added, “The subsidy amount will likely be larger than that of TSMC.”

Notably, the update may disappoint users waiting for a Telephoto camera and Nightography optimization beyond 10x zoom. The firmware will hopefully be optimized in August itself so the consumers will start getting it in the same month without any delay.
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra. The S24 Ultra features a 200-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel 5x Periscope, and a 10-megapixel 3x Telephoto. Non-Ultra models of the lineup will also receive notable camera improvements.
