Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Just two days left in Samsung’s mega Unpacked event. The official launch taking place on July 10, but a new report says that Samsung has raised the price of its already expensive Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 by 100,000 won ($70) over their predecessors in South Korea.

Chosun claims that 256GB variants of Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 could cost 1,485,000 won (~ $1075) and 2,229,700 (~ $1615) won, respectively. Last year, the company’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 came with a price tag of 1,399,200 won while the Z Fold 5 at 2,097,700 won.

Korean media reports that Samsung has made the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 more expensive through a price hike of 100,000 won. In some previous rumors, we’ve observed the same could happen with the upcoming phones in some markets including Europe and Asia.

Despite this price increment, Samsung is said to sell the new foldables in Korea at the lowest price in the world. The handsets may be priced approximately 138,250 won ($100) higher in the global market. This price increase is analyzed as being due to the upgrade of specs.

Samsung is investing in artificial intelligence. Similar to the S24 series, Samsung will introduce new Galaxy AI features with the new foldable phones. The company confirmed that these AI features will be free for Galaxy users until 2025.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy will power the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. Unlike the S24 series, the new foldables will exclusively use the Snapdragon chipset. Exynos’ future is also uncertain due to low yields at Samsung Foundry’s 3nm process node.

Workers union at Samsung Electronics kicked off a 3-day strike, demanding better pay. The company’s around 24% workers are supporting the strike directed by the union. Approx 30,000 employees are on strike from Samsung’s entire workforce.

It’s not the first time controversy created between Samsung and the workers union. The company was in discussion with its leaders for a long but negotiations failed. It results in employees going on strike to get their demands fulfilled and also includes additional leave.

It is reported that workers gathered en masse near Samsung’s HQ in Hwaseong, south of Seoul. It is said that 6,540 workers are striking this week, mostly at manufacturing sites and in product development. There is also a complaint that the bonus system is unfair and needs a revisit.

“Education about labour unions for union members and employees has not been enough. But I don’t think this participation is low because our union is still young compared to other unions,” Union president Son Woo-mok said.

The National Samsung Electronics Labor Union (NSU) is the largest labor union at Samsung. This is the first time that the company’s union has gone on a general strike since its foundation in 1967.
