Samsung Galaxy devices eligible for 7 years of Android upgrades [List]

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6

Samsung is pledging 7 years of Android upgrades to select Galaxy devices. The newly launched Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 are guaranteed for longer software support. It’s the same upgrade policy that Samsung assured to offer on the Galaxy S24 series.

The company is significantly increasing the longevity of its flagship smartphones. Now, consumers can keep their Galaxy for at least 7 years. From the software side, Samsung will take care of the device owners, providing new features and security enhancements.

The Korean tech giant is also refining its hardware spare parts availability. Spare parts will be made available for years so you can get your Galaxy repaired if required. It’s a great approach to reducing e-waste and helping consumers make even longer utilization of their spent money.

Samsung Galaxy devices that are eligible for 7 years of Android upgrades:

  1. Galaxy Z Flip 6
  2. Galaxy Z Fold 6
  3. Galaxy S24 Ultra
  4. Galaxy S24 Plus
  5. Galaxy S24

All of the devices come with Android 14 pre-installed. This means the last major upgrade for the above-listed phones would be Android 21. Besides, Samsung will continue to release regular security updates and feature drop updates until 2031.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6

The new software plan had not been expanded to older lineups like before. Still, the Galaxy S23 series as well as Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are eligible for 4 OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches. It’s uncertain but Samsung could provide an additional OS upgrade to some devices.

Samsung’s software strategy is inspired by Google’s support for Pixel phones. The company’s affordable Pixel 8a handset is also supported by a 7-year update plan. Therefore, we guess that the Galaxy S24 FE might join the 2024 flagships with Samsung’s top-notch software plan.

In addition, the Korean tech giant may also expand the update support to the next-gen flagship tablet lineup. The Galaxy Tab S10 series could launch this year, which might also be supported by seven years of OS and regular software updates plan.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s new design decisions leaked

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Possible new design decisions for Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra have been leaked. A credible Samsung tipster revealed some changes that the next Galaxy S Ultra will be adopting. These changes aimed at improving the in-hand feel of the flagship compared to the S24 Ultra.

IceUniverse claims that Samsung has made some major changes to the middle frame of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The middle frame’s top part (near the screen) is angular, while the bottom part (near the back panel) is rounded to enhance the handling.

The tipster also revealed that the middle frame has been narrowed, which will make the Galaxy S25 Ultra look sleeker. Thankfully, a narrowed middle frame will reduce the visual bezel as compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a bumped middle frame.

Meanwhile, the phone’s width will likely remain the same as the S24 Ultra. The leak indicates that Samsung is sticking with its design principles alongside making fruitful design changes. It’s going to be a major overhaul in Samsung’s flagship design language in recent years.

Earlier, it was reported that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will ditch its boxy design. The corners will be rounded, inspired by the Galaxy Note 7 design. It will end the concern of crushing the palm while using it for quite some time single-handedly.

The Korean tech giant has recently launched the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. The foldable phone gets design inspiration from the Galaxy S24 Ultra, making the frame almost angular. The cover screen has also widened, becoming even more useful for most of the tasks.

The company’s next Unpacked could take place in January 2025. Besides the S25 Ultra, Samsung will also launch the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus. There’s a possibility of MediaTek chipset’s utilization for some markets as Samsung Foundry’s 3nm process is facing yield-related concerns.
