[Patent] Samsung’s innovative AR tech protects fingerprint data

Published

Samsung is innovating a new AI tech to protect fingerprint data. It will be a very major breakthrough in the smartphone industry. The company seemingly aims to address the rarest concern of privacy compromise.

A new patent discovered by OnlineSolitaire reveals Samsung’s new fingerprint security technology. The Korean tech giant wishes to utilize augmented reality in the prevention of the theft of fingerprint data left on device screens.

As described, the AR-based security system could detect fingerprint residue. The technology will make use of augmented reality for analysis and alert the user if it poses a security risk to enhance privacy and prevent unauthorized access.

Stealing fingerprint data from the device screen is not a basic task. Even after getting the fingerprint data stolen, there will be a lot of hurdles in accessing the device. However, it isn’t impossible to gain access through fingerprint data.

The device will detect fingerprint residue on a screen using a built-in sensor. Once done, it connects wirelessly to AR glasses to capture and analyze the fingerprint residue as part of cross-referencing it with stored data to assess its authenticity.

Leading vendors often file patent and trademark applications. It’s a move to secure their innovation and earn from royalty. Notably, not all patented innovations come out as consumer products, but a potential debut in the future is likely.
