Samsung races to increase 3nm AI chip yields for Nvidia
Geopolitical tensions in Taiwan may lead Nvidia to switch AI chip production from TSMC to Samsung. The company is currently facing yield issues with its cutting-edge 3nm semiconductor fabrication node GAA.
Nvidia CEO recently stated that “agility and their capability to respond to our needs is just incredible,” but “if necessary, of course, we can always bring up others.” Hence, Samsung has an urgent need to enhance its 3nm yield for AI processors.
The top executive mentioned that Nvidia could switch suppliers if necessary, due to concerns like rising geopolitical tensions in Taiwan. However, switching semiconductor production from TSMC might “result in lower-quality products.”
The South Korean tech giant is scrambling to improve its manufacturing yield, which refers to the ratio of good and error-free units to the total number of units produced. But the number is not improving as fast as Samsung hopes.
Samsung failed to secure Nvidia orders for advanced AI processors such as H Series or Blackwell. Last year, the company secured Nvidia’s orders for 8-nanometer-based chips like the Tegra for automobiles and the RTX-3000 GPU in 2020.
The company’s 3nm yield rate remained single digit until the first quarter of the year. This impacted the mass production of the Exynos 2500 chipset, which was rumored to be utilized in the Galaxy S25 series next year.
Verizon is rolling out the One UI 6.1.1 update for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ 5G in the US. This update is already live in Europe and Korea. The company will soon make it available in more countries.
The fresh update introduces One UI 6.1.1 features that make the performance of the device smoother. Also, it installs the August 2024 security patch to improve system security and stability.
Notably, the One UI 6.1.1 update adds exciting new features like turning your sketches into images, making photos look better, and auto-completing text on the Samsung Keyboard. You can now translate calls and text in images in real-time, convert voice to text, handle PDFs more easily, and enjoy wallpapers that change with the weather and time.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ 5G users are getting the One UI 6.1.1 update on Verizon network carrier in the US via PDA version X818USQU4BXHB. The update is rolling out for locked models.
To check for software updates manually, head toward your phone’s Settings. At the bottom, you will get the Software Update section, simply open it. Inside the submenu, you need to hit the Download and Install button if your Galaxy fetches a new OTA.
Before you download, make sure to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network, or make sure it has a strong Verizon wireless network connection. In addition, ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update.

The fresh update for your phone enhances its security and stability to ensure a better overall experience. This update improves performance by fixing 1 critical security issue and 43 high-level vulnerabilities. While one of these problems was addressed in a previous update, another doesn’t affect Galaxy devices.
Additionally, Samsung has resolved 23 security issues related to various apps like My Files, Theme Center, One UI Home, Knox, and Dex. This means your device will be more secure and reliable.
The September 2024 security update package size for Samsung Galaxy S21 FE in Europe is about 300MB in size. It’s important to install updates as soon as possible to take advantage of these security improvements. Samsung will soon make this update available for all S21 FE models.

PDF OVERLAY TRANSLATION
Galaxy AI’s new PDF Overlay Translation feature makes foreign language documents easily understandable. Galaxy users won’t need to copy and paste chunks of text into a translation website to get it translated.
How it works: Open a foreign language PDF file with Samsung Notes and hit the Galaxy AI button to access the translation option. Galaxy AI will automatically detect the language and overlay the translated text on top of the original.
Tip: There is also an option to generate a summary of the text, allowing you to focus on the main points.
SKETCH TO IMAGE
Sketch to Image is a generative AI feature that empowers your inner artist. You can either draw on a new file from stretch or on an image overlay, it works both ways.
How it works: Create a freehand sketch or draw over an existing image. Then select your desired art style to bring the sketch to life. Once you’re happy with your choice, press “Generate” and Galaxy AI will transform the sketch into a vivid gem.
CIRCLE TO SEARCH
Circle to Search is a visual-based search tool, which makes information searching intuitive and effortless. This AI feature also serves as a study companion to solve math problems.
How it works: You can active Circle to Search by holding down the Home button or handle. Then, tap or draw a circle around the thing or problem and a pop-up will provide the search results or solution along with a step-by-step guide.
