Recently, a research firm – SellCell published the ranking of mobile phone retention rates in April 2021. The report revealed that Apple’s iPhone 12 series performed stronger than the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, which was released earlier this year.

In contrast, if you want to trade-in for a new one after about 12 months of use, the iPhone 12 series is still the most valuable option. Since its launch in 2020, the iPhone 12 series has only lost 18.1% ~ 33.7% of its initial value.

Talking about Samsung, the devaluation of the Galaxy S21 series was faster than expected. However, these phones were launched earlier this year while they have lost 44.8% ~ 57.1% of their value.

Moreover, the 256GB version of the Galaxy S21 priced at $799 is the first to bear the brunt. At the same time, the 6.1-inch and 64GB model of the iPhone 12 series has decreased by 33.7%, which is equivalent to the 512GB iPhone 12 Pro model.

Surprisingly, Apple iPhone 12 mini is clearly regarded as the iPhone 12 series with the best sales performance so far, but its monthly depreciation rate is relatively small.

How SellCell compared the depreciation values of Samsung Galaxy S21 and Apple iPhone 12?

SellCell compared the MSRP of all iPhone 12 and Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone models against their current value. The company took both monthly and total depreciation as both a percentage of the MSRP and cash value and compared those figures to find out which handset, iPhone 12, or Samsung Galaxy S21, loses its value quickest.

Samsung allegedly developing Tri-Fold phone, launch expected in 2025

Published

on

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design

Samsung may launch its first tri-fold smartphone in 2025. Following the launch of Huawei Mate XT, industry sources and Korean media outlets reported that Honor will also be entering the tri-fold device market.

Recently, Korean leaker yeux1122 claimed that Samsung is developing the Galaxy Z Fold with a tri-fold screen, which is likely to release the device as early as 2025.

Unlike the Mate XT, Samsung’s tri-fold could use a dual inward-folding hinge. The different design approach will allow for an independent external screen.

This redesign will enhance the phone’s usability and multitasking capabilities. Notably, foldable displays generally work as both the main and cover screen.

Samsung Tri Fold Prototype

This year, Samsung’s phone lineup has been relatively subdued. The company acknowledged that changes to its product lineup are gradual, but it has promised significant changes next year.

Other reports have made similar claims, stating that a three-screen Galaxy Fold is in development, suggesting Samsung is taking its foldable technology in a new direction.

The development of folding panels is advancing rapidly, with more vendors entering the competition. It seems Samsung may be preparing for a big leap forward in the foldable market.

Apart from this, the source pointed out that a Special Edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is in development, and it is expected to launch alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Many significant upgrades from Samsung are anticipated in 2025, as it is also mentioned that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will be released together with the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
