Samsung Australia to launch trial of Vital Monitoring System on Galaxy Watch 4
On October 12, Samsung announced the launch of a re-open.com solution, Vital Monitoring System (VMS), for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. The IVMS recently launched worldwide in the US, is part of re-open.com, a cloud-based platform developed in Australia by Deakin University, NTRI, and SaniteX Global to support the world as it recovers from COVID-19 to the future.
The VMS uses both physical health indicators and reporting tools to provide a simple and comprehensive medical assessment tool suitable for advanced front-line workers.
The trial will take advantage of the sensors on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to enhance the efficiency and ease of use of the VMS, including the SpO2 sensor and heart rate monitor. The SpO2 smartwatch sensor enables users to monitor their blood oxygen levels, providing a clear visual aid that helps track them.

As part of this study, Deakin University and NTRI in partnership with Samsung are investigating the use of the Galaxy Watch 4 as an independent device as it currently requires a compatible Android smartphone.
While Australia and the country are recovering from the epidemic, workers are at the forefront of priorities and broader strengths to follow – the VMS solution is designed to give employers and their employees peace of mind when it comes to a safe return to work.

The VMS solution works with a user who receives an SMS message every morning before work, linking to a viewing survey, where they are asked test questions and questions about their key features. These include fever, SpO2, heart rate, COVID-19 symptoms including body aches, headaches, or sore throats, and whether they were very close to anyone who had, or showed signs of COVID-19.
Integrating the solution into Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 allows users to create a questionnaire using their watch, which is designed to automatically measure SpO2 and Heart Rate – and apply that to test questions. When the user passes the test, you will receive a QR code that will give you access to work.
The solution’s strict security measures mean that personal health data is kept secure and confidential. Data is encrypted to employers. The only people who can ever access the data are clinicians to help in the case of people needing treatment and requiring accessing health records. The new screening tool is compliant with the highest standard of health privacy regulations.

Samsung boosts collaboration and safety with expanded Mobile Security Rewards Program
Samsung has improved its Mobile Security Rewards Program by increasing the maximum reward amount to $1 million for security vulnerability reports from outside security experts. This change aims to encourage more collaboration and openness in mobile security, showing Samsung’s goal of keeping user data safe.
Since its launch in 2017, the program has introduced a new system for classifying security risks with Samsung Mobile Security Risk Classification. This system now offers clearer details about different types of vulnerabilities
Moreover, it includes new factors like the ability to lower a threat’s severity and a classification for threats considered to be minimal risks. Vulnerabilities are grouped into five levels – Critical, High, Moderate, Low, and Ineligible, which helps security researchers understand how serious each threat is.
The program applies to all Samsung mobile devices that receive monthly, quarterly, and biannual security updates. It also rewards reports of potential security issues in the latest Samsung Galaxy services, such as Bixby, Samsung Account, and Samsung Wallet, among others.
Samsung also commits to providing up to seven years of security updates for its mobile devices. The updated rewards program includes a special initiative called the Important Scenario Vulnerability Program, which addresses serious security issues, such as unauthorized access to data and harmful code execution.
In August 2024, Samsung released its first Annual Rewards Program Report to highlight its success since the program began. In 2023 alone, Samsung awarded over $800,000 to 113 researchers, with total payouts exceeding $4 million. This Mobile Security Rewards Program is effective immediately.
