Samsung knocks all smartphone rivals off their perch, Apple too!

Q4 was not so good for Samsung but it has defeated all of its rivals in full-year 2022 smartphone market worldwide. Canalys analysis reveals that Samsung remained the world’s biggest smartphone vendor in 2022, however, Apple led the fourth quarter.

Talking about the 2022 global market analysis, Samsung seized a 22% share worldwide with a 2% increase year-over-year. Apple remained the second biggest phone vendor with a 19% market share, securing a 2% growth over the last year.

Apart from Samsung and Apple, Chinese phone makers including Xiaomi, Oppo (including OnePlus) and Vivo saw notable drops in their market share. Quick Figures 2021 vs 2022: Xiaomi – 14% to 13%, Oppo – 11% to 9% and Vivo – 10% to 9%, whereas participation of others remains 28%.

Coming to the last quarter of 2022 where the Cupertino tech giant reclaimed the top spot and recorded its highest quarterly market share ever at 25%. Apple secured this growth even after facing shrinking demand and manufacturing issues in Zhengzhou.

Samsung recorded a 20% market share in the fourth quarter, a big 5% gap from Apple, but a 1% jump YoY. No doubt, the new iPhone 14 series models helped the US tech giant to increase shipments, whereas Dynamic Island became another reason for the Pro models’ popularity.

“Smartphone vendors have struggled in a difficult macroeconomic environment throughout 2022. Q4 marks the worst annual and Q4 performance in a decade,” said Canalys Research Analyst.

2023 Forcast

Canalys forecasts flat to marginal growth for the smartphone market in 2023, with conditions expected to remain tough. Some regions could grow in 2H23, with Southeast Asia in particular expected to see some economic recovery and a resurgence of tourism in China helping to drive business activities.

Sorry Apple, Google: Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is official and it’s GREAT!

Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S24 FE. The company’s latest Fan Edition will be available for order starting October 3, in the Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint, and Yellow colors.

The new Samsung Galaxy S24 FE packs pro-grade hardware and Galaxy AI capabilities. There are many striking upgrades that make it comparable to the Galaxy S24 flagship.

Apple just launched the iPhone 16 after Google’s Pixel 9 unveiling. The Galaxy S24 FE can’t be considered non-flagship, thanks to Samsung’s approach to bring massive upgrades.

The smartphone sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and Vision Booster.

It boots Android 14-based One UI 6.1, bringing all the amazing bells and whistles of the new OS. Surprisingly, it is supported by seven years of OS and security updates so it won’t miss out on new features.

It is a 5G-supported smartphone that also has WiFi 6E technology. Security features include Auto Blocker, Samsung Knox, Samsung Knox Vault, Samsung Knox Matrix, and Passkey.

As leaked earlier, the Galaxy S24 FE costs $649 for 128GB and $709 for 256GB variant in the US. You can get up to $400 instant trade-in credit apart from Education, Govt and Military offers.

Samsung Galaxy S25 to use ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite’ chip, thanks Xiaomi!

Samsung Galaxy S25 series could use Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Qualcomm apparently renamed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to Snapdragon 8 Elite. It comes as the second segment is renamed within three years.

It is heavily inspired by Qualcomm’s recently released Snapdragon X Elite. As the Oryon CPU is expanding to mobile AP, the naming scheme is also altered. The processor is set to power most of the Android flagships coming in the next few months.

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 888 chip in December 2022. The company later debuted Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 as a successor to the Snapdragon 888. Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 was also launched in mid-term for select flagships.

The US chip giant continued its naming strategy till last year. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powers various 2024 flagship phones. However, the successor won’t be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, as a rename to Snapdragon 8 Elite is almost confirmed.

Later on, an overclocked version was also benchmarked with the Global S25 Ultra model. It features two cores clocked at 4.47GHz and six cores clocked at 3.53GHz. The scores were 3011 and 9706 in single-core and multi-core, respectively.
