Samsung S23 Ultra Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Benchmarks

Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone, which sets a new standard for premium smartphones by combining the unmatched power of the Note series and S series. What makes the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra even more attractive is its Galaxy-specific Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, setting new records in various benchmarks.

It’s no secret that Samsung has partnered with Qualcomm and created Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform for Galaxy. This chipset is slightly different from the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and delivers better performance with overclocked CPU and GPU.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy features the same CPU configuration, such as 1x Cortex-X3, 2x Cortex-A715, 2x Cortex-A710, and 3x Cortex-A510 cores, but the main Cortex-X3 core is clocked at 3.36 GHz instead of 3.2GHz.

The same is the case with the GPU. The Galaxy’s Adreno 740 is running at 719 MHz while the regular one is running at 680 MHz.

Samsung S23 Ultra Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Benchmarks

GSMArena has recently examined both versions of the chipset – the one used in Galaxy S23 Ultra and the regular one which other brand phones use. You can check out the test results of various benchmarks for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset installed on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and other Android flagship smartphones.

The Geekbench 5 CPU test results may come as a surprise to some as the Galaxy S23 Ultra beats the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro in the single-core test while defeated from it in the multi-core test.

That’s because the Cortex-X3 inside the S23 Ultra is clocked higher. Secondly, the larger Cortex-X3 cores are not used in the multi-core test. And this is why the Red Magic 8 Pro may have a slight advantage over the Galaxy due to its powerful cooling system which allows the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to run on a higher gear.

In the AnTuTu test, the Galaxy S23 Ultra falls behind the Red Magic 8 Pro. But we should not forget that the latter is a gaming phone with a 1080p+ screen requiring less graphics power. On the other side, the new Snapdragon is considerably faster than the older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and even then iPhone 14 Pro Max’s A16 Bionic.

Lastly, when it comes to GPU-intensive tasks, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a clear winner. In almost all offscreen tests, the Samsung flagship pulled ahead of the rest and only fell behind in onscreen tests when challenged by phones with lower resolutions.

Overall, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy delivers significantly upgraded performance compared to the regular version of the same chipset.

Huawei tri-fold foldable

Huawei is all set to launch the world’s first tri-fold foldable smartphone. The company just dropped a bombing teaser, confirming its mega launch event. This massive development comes when Samsung stalls and Apple remains foldable-free.

Samsung showcased tri-fold screen prototype devices on many occasions. It was expected to debut the world’s first triple-screen foldable smartphone. However, Huawei is all set to attain this crown beating Samsung and other vendors.

Huawei confirmed its next hardware launch event taking place on September 10. It’s right a day after Apple’s iPhone 16 unveiling scheduled for September 9. Tri-fold could significantly harm Apple’s presence in the Chinese market.

In addition, Huawei Consumer Business Group Chairman – Yu Chengdong said the company’s most leading, innovative, and disruptive product is coming.

“After 5 years of persistence and investment, we have turned science fiction into reality. Please look forward to Huawei’s pinnacle work!”

Huawei tri-fold foldable

Tri-fold concept previously showcased a device having screens on three sides. The phone will have two hinges, allowing users to expand all three displays. The current foldable features a single hinge in the middle, offering a tablet-like screen size.

Beyond that, the tri-fold phone would offer an even larger screen in a more portable size. Software-derived features could further enhance usability, with one panel being used as a keyboard and others as screen and standing support.

Durability still remains the main concern in this kind of innovative device. Foldable phones launched by Samsung and Huawei are gradually entering the mainstream. However, consumers still refrain from preferring foldable as their next upgrade.

Huawei’s tri-fold could remain a China-exclusive product. Samsung may also come up with its tri-fold handset in the near future. The Display department has worked enough on the panel, but the Mobile division hasn’t yet approved development.
